While British astronauts walk on the moon, George Moore, a professor of moral philosophy, is up late with his pet hare Thumper and a tortoise called Pat, trying to write a lecture that proves God exists and that good and evil are real. In the next room his wife Dotty, a musical-comedy star who has abruptly given up the stage, is throwing a riotous party for the newly elected Radical Liberals, complete with a band and a troupe of acrobats. George phones in an anonymous complaint about the noise. By morning the police are at the door, there has been a murder, and Dotty is the prime suspect.
