The Constant Wife

The Constant Wife is a comedy of manners by W. Somerset Maugham, set in 1920s England. It follows Constance Middleton, an intelligent and self-possessed woman who learns that her husband has been unfaithful with her best friend. Rather than react conventionally, she begins to question the assumptions surrounding marriage, respectability and female duty.
