Fences

Friday is payday, and in the Maxsons' Pittsburgh backyard Troy holds court with a bottle and a story. Once a star hitter in the Negro Leagues, now hauling rubbish for the city, he is funny, proud and bitter about the career the colour line denied him. His wife Rose wants a fence round the yard, his son Cory wants to play college football, his brother Gabriel, wounded in the war, wanders the streets with a trumpet, and Troy's choices push them all towards a reckoning.
