Awake and Sing!

Through the one window of a cramped Bronx apartment, the Berger family can see nothing but more tenements and other people's washing. Three generations share the rooms in the Great Depression: Bessie, who rules the household with an iron will, her mild husband Myron, her idealistic father Jacob, her restless son Ralph and her daughter Hennie, whose secret threatens the family's respectability. Rich Uncle Morty drops by with cash and opinions, while the embittered boarder Moe Axelrod circles Hennie.
