Music Ben Harper, CJ Harper·Book Jonathan Caren
Hit Machine is a play by Jonathan Caren with original music by Ben Harper and CJ Harper. Two estranged brothers, one a hit-making music mogul and the other a musician who never quite made it, meet again in a Bel Air mansion, where old resentments turn into a fight over family, memory and who controls the story of their shared childhood. A hip-hop artist torn between commercial success and the sound that made him is caught up in their conflict, and the brothers are pushed into a final collaboration in which the only way to tell the truth is through a song. The play deals with brotherhood, male violence and creative theft.
