The Wars of the Roses

Shakespeare's cycle of history plays follows the struggle for the English crown during the Wars of the Roses, a long civil conflict between the Houses of York and Lancaster. Drawing on Henry VI, Parts 1, 2 and 3 and Richard III, it traces the shifting allegiances, private betrayals and public ambition that drive the kingdom towards chaos.
