La Bohème

A Left Bank attic beneath a flashing red neon sign that spells out L'AMOUR, in a black-and-white Paris of the late fifties. Rodolfo, a struggling poet, and his artist friends scrape by on hope and bravado until, on Christmas Eve, Mimì from next door knocks to ask for a light. Their romance carries them out into the crowded, glittering streets of the Latin Quarter, where Marcello's former girlfriend Musetta is putting on a show of her own.
