The Matchgirls

Inspired by the 1888 strike at the Bryant & May match factory in London, The Matchgirls follows Kate, a tenement worker who emerges as a fierce and persuasive strike leader. With the help of reformer Annie Besant, the women challenge dangerous working conditions, punishing fines and the threat of phossy jaw while the community around Hope Court begins to find its own voice.
