La Traviata

On a bare stage hung with layer upon layer of red curtains, Violetta Valéry, a celebrated courtesan who knows she is gravely ill, is courted at a party by Alfredo, an earnest, bookish young poet. She gives up her glittering life to be with him, until his father, Giorgio Germont, arrives with his young daughter at his side and asks Violetta to make a sacrifice for the family's good name.
