Exit the King is an absurdist play that unfolds over the course of a single day in the throne room of a crumbling kingdom. King Berenger the First, a four-hundred-year-old monarch who once commanded nature itself, is confronted with the devastating news that he has merely ninety minutes left to live. As his world disintegrates around him—his palace walls crumble, his kingdom fails, and the very mechanisms of the universe begin to malfunction—the king struggles desperately against the inevitability of his own death, refusing to relinquish control even as his physical capabilities fade.
