The Duchess of Malfi

John Webster’s Jacobean tragedy is set in Italy and centres on the Duchess of Malfi, a widowed noblewoman who chooses to marry below her rank in secret. Her decision places her in direct conflict with her controlling brothers, whose suspicion and obsession with honour turn private life into a matter of political and personal violence.
