The Sound of Music

Under a painted sky of swirling cloud and dark firs, Maria, a postulant in a plain grey dress, slips out of her abbey to sing on the mountain. The nuns send her to the von Trapp villa, where a curving staircase sweeps down to seven children and a widowed captain who has banished music from his home. Her songs win the children over as Austria edges towards Nazi annexation.
