Summerfolk

Summerfolk is Maxim Gorky's 1904 play about a group of educated urbanites and landowners spending the summer at a country estate in Russia. As they talk, flirt, argue, and circle one another in changing combinations, the play reveals a society marked by restlessness, self-deception, and idle privilege.
