Pacific Overtures

Set in 19th-century Japan, Pacific Overtures follows the country’s forced opening to the West, beginning with Commodore Perry’s arrival in 1853 and the upheaval that follows. Told largely from a Japanese perspective, the musical traces how politics, tradition and personal loyalties are shaken as Japan moves into a new era.
