Redcliffe

In Redcliffe, Bristol, in the mid-eighteenth century, William Critchard, a footman who has lost his job, comes home for Christmas and meets Richard Arnold, a sailor visiting from London. Their love must be kept hidden, and when the town barber reports seeing them together, William is arrested and his case goes to court, while his mother and sister face the gossip of the town.
