The Baker's Wife

The Baker's Wife is a musical by Stephen Schwartz, with a book by Joseph Stein, based on the 1938 French film La Femme du Boulanger. Set in a small French village, it follows Aimable, a kindly middle-aged baker, and his much younger wife Genevieve as their arrival unsettles the community. When Genevieve runs off with the charming Dominique, Aimable abandons his oven and the villagers are forced to confront the consequences of their own gossip, loneliness and longing.
