Un ballo in maschera

In a playfully surreal court of turning rooms and uncanny masked figures, King Gustavo III of Sweden is tormented by his love for Amelia, the wife of his closest friend and adviser, Count Anckarstroem. He shrugs off warnings of a plot against him and goes in disguise to consult the fortune-teller Ulrica, whose prophecy sets off a chain of suspicion, jealousy and revenge that ends at a masked ball.
