My Neighbour Totoro is leaving the West End.
The Royal Shakespeare Company's stage adaptation of the Studio Ghibli classic will play its final performance at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on 10 January 2027, with producers confirming this is the show's last West End extension.
Adapted by Tom Morton-Smith and directed by Improbable co-founder Phelim McDermott — with puppetry by Basil Twist and music by original Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi — the production first opened at the Barbican in October 2022 and swept the 2023 Oliviers, winning six awards (the most of any show that year) along with five WhatsOnStage Awards.
After a return Barbican season and the West End transfer to the Gillian Lynne, the final stretch begins now for Catbus, soot sprites, and one of British theatre's most quietly miraculous productions.
