The campus where In the Heights was born now has a Lin-Manuel Miranda Theater.
Wesleyan University has named the new black box theater inside its Fries Arts Building after Lin-Manuel Miranda, Class of 2002. Miranda began writing In the Heights as an undergraduate on the Middletown, Connecticut campus.
The black box is an experimental performance space with state-of-the-art production equipment and a large glass wall that opens fully to the lawn — letting performances move between indoor and outdoor environments. The Fries Arts Building opened in fall 2025; the naming was announced this week.
Wesleyan President Michael Roth called the dedication "fitting" for "a space designed for discovery." Miranda, who received an honorary doctorate from the university in 2015, said the campus "doesn't expect you to have it all figured out — but gives you the support, freedom, and opportunity."
