Wayne Brady is making his Off-Broadway leading-man debut.
The Whose Line Is It Anyway? and Let's Make a Deal host will play Joan Jett Blakk — the alter ego of real-life drag performer Terence Alan Smith, who in 1992 became the first Black drag queen to run for U.S. president — in the New York premiere of Ms. Blakk for President at the Vineyard Theatre this fall.
Co-written by Oscar-winner Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight) and Tony nominee Tina Landau (Floyd Collins), the play first ran at Steppenwolf in 2019 with McCraney himself in the title role. Landau returns to direct.
Previews begin 15 October, opening night is 1 November, with a limited six-week run. It's the first production of the Vineyard's 2026-27 season.
